Asquith Hall will arrange for staff to receive comprehensive, expert training regarding all aspects of mental health and dementia. Each aspect of good practice within Asquith Hall is governed by detailed written policies, which are reviewed at fixed regular intervals. These policies are intended to guide staff, and to assist them in their roles and responsibilities. Asquith Hall will maintain the following documents in the clinical areas for staff reference: Deprivation of Liberty A clinical resource library of articles, books, information and training packages are also available. The home is an accredited centre for the provision of non violent crisis intervention training and advanced communication skills. This instructor led by the Nurse Manager, Janet Thompson who has various teaching and delivering qualifications. The home is working towards the Gold Standards Framework Quality Systems for care of the dying and Investors in People recognition. Training & Induction PlanningAll staff regardless of grading or status will receive full induction to the philosophy of care, statement of purpose, service users guide, aims and objectives, policies, procedures and contractual rights of the service users. This will take part of the homes generic induction, timed in relation to the initial trial periods. All care staff will be guided through the common induction standards set out by Skills for Care. Additional targets will be in relation to the desired / necessary development of vocational qualifications. Staff will also be related to best practice or national guidelines for excellence. Also essential knowledge base of Introduction to Mental Health Training, Dementia Awareness, Nutrition, Advanced Communication Skills, Limit Setting, Behavioural Interaction, Challenging Behaviour, Safety Breakaway Techniques and Non Violent Crisis Intervention in theory and practical C & R. The reviews for these targets will be in 3 monthly intervals and also form part of the annual appraisal given to staff. |

The roles of mentors, supervision, appraisal and staff welfare may indicate further learning. Also advanced delivering learning and teaching, assessing qualifications will be accessed. Audit and monitoring of standards will be key to the quality assurance of the home. Topical aspects of our role will dictate the teaching of aspects of the Mental Capacity Act, Deprivation of Liberty, Safeguarding and Basic Ethics. The introduction of Palliative Care and the role in Dementia Care, Advanced Care Planning and the Gold Standards Framework will be delivered as we join a new phase of pre accreditation. NVQ studies will continue including vocational learning in aspects of admin, catering, therapeutic activities, hospitality, housekeeping and cleaning as well as traditional care 2, 3, 4 and RMA awards. Additional team leader roles will be developed. The brief outline is not exhaustive but essential to this is the core values of understanding our client group, negotiation of care planning, risk assessment, choice, diversity, mental health and behaviour models, tools, which include observation levels, behaviour models, tools, which include observation levels, behaviour monitoring and various other complex health needs not specific to age. The written documentation of our learning will be available as evidence in the form of a training and development policy, development plan, SMART planned and basic certificated evidence. Evidence for some staff will be in the format of a reflective diary and alternative formats for learning. Also access to formal accredited learning, e learning and traditional classroom based subjects. Future plans will strive for others to learn in our environment through student nurse mentorship and other colleges of further education.
