Activities and Therapies

The focus at Asquith Hall is to keep people as active and independent as possible through activities which can include use of the hydro massage pool with one of our therapists, a visit to the local gym, outdoor activities in our company car or minibus, use of our snoozelon room, structured work with our arts and crafts therapist, music and age appropriate themes.

Time at Asquith Hall is an experience to everyone whether they are visiting, acting in a professional capacity or living here.

Use of hi-spec technology, such as our i-tune music system, laptop for service users project and even the start of a computerised care plan system is within the building.

We regularly use SKYPE to keep in communication with residents families, especially for those who have relatives abroad, computerised chess sessions or residents to have their own e-mail address.

We host a newsletter with contributions from families and residents with seasonal focus on our activities, including celebrating birthdays, nights out, etc.

We have our very own beauty and hairdressing salon for that personal touch.

We have a beautiful garden which has just been completed to the side of the building with easy access for residents and wheelchairs.

Local communities are involved in our work, including local colleges, schools, local dignitory and local projects such as the edible Todmorden campaign.

What are the benefits of Occupational Therapy at
Asquith Hall:

1. Improves clients independence in activities of daily living (meal planning, shopping, cooking, using public transport, cleaning, budgeting, personal hygiene) and prepares patients for more independent living in the community.

2. Improves clients self esteem, self-worth and confidence by achievement of activities and goals and engaging in valued occupations.

3. Enables clients to develop leisure skills and interests.

4. Improves clients physical fitness and stamina through sports/exercise and increasing activity levels.

5. Develops clients coping skills for dealing with difficult situations (e.g. addressing anxiety going about in the community).

6. Improves clients cognitive skills through engagement in activity (e.g. concentration, memory, problem-solving, decision-making).

7. Improves patients’ social skills through engaging in group work in the hospital and accessing the community.

8. Develops clients interpersonal skills by encouraging interaction, sharing and negotiation between members of the group.

9. Allows clients to assume valued roles and responsibilities (within groups, through taking up therapeutic work roles or engaging in education).

10. Provides a balanced structure to the clients day and promotes beneficial use of their time whilst at Asquith Hall.

11. Enables clients to maintain links with the community outside of the home and promotes social inclusion by accessing mainstream facilities.

12. Allows clients to learn or improve IT skills which can be used for vocational or leisure pursuits.

13. Allows clients to achieve a satisfying performance and balance of occupations, in the areas of self-care, productivity and leisure, which support recovery, health, well-being and social participation.

14. Clients are able to perform activities which have purpose and meaning for them, which improves clients levels of motivation and commitment.

15. OT’s and clients work actively together in treatment to increase clients responsibility, choice, autonomy and control, and prepare them for discharge into a less secure environment.
